In December 2004, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and US-Vietnam Trade Council joined forces and integrated their efforts in the United States and in the region.

Climate Change Conference Held in Vietnam

Vietnam's WTO membership took effect on January 11, 2007. In celebration of this event and US-Vietnam normalization, the Council and the Embassy of Vietnam co-hosted a reception on January 11 for over 400 guests at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Attendants to this event included Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien, Assistant Secretary of State Christopher R. Hill, Senator Jim Webb, Representative Earl Blumenauer (the new co-chair of the US-Vietnam Congressional Caucus), former U.S. Representative Rob Simmons (former co-chair of the Caucus). During this reception, USTDA Director Thelma Askey also presented Ambassador Chien with the USTDA's 2006 Country of the Year honor for Vietnam.
